John 3:16

There was a lot of discussion about whether Fox should allow a religious commercial to play during the Super Bowl. So, I thought I would make sure you knew what the verse says.

John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Or to put it more accurately, For god so loved the world that he sacrificed his only son, in a brutal human sacrifice to himself to pay himself the price he himself established to save us from himself. Unless, of course, you do not believe in him, then he makes you burn for all eternity.

Of course, we are talking about an all powerful, all knowing omnipresent deity here. Therefore, it is difficult to know exactly what sacrifice Jesus was supposed to have made for us. Generally, when something is sacrificed, it is given up. However, Jesus was back with his entire body intact after three days (all powerful) and he certainly knew that was going to happen (all knowing) and it is impossible in any event for him to actually be dead, (omnipresent).

So, while Christians may feel this is a wonderful display of Gods love for us, I have to wonder, if he feels that was an actual sacrifice, perhaps what it really shows is why his idea of love is equally flawed.
